New Delhi: State-owned mining major NMDC Limited has delivered its best-ever annual performance in FY 2025-26, setting new benchmarks in iron ore production and sales. The company has become the first iron ore miner in India to cross the 50 million tonnes (MT) production milestone.

Record Iron Ore Production and Sales in FY26

According to the Ministry of Steel, NMDC Limited produced 53.16 MT of iron ore during FY 2025-26. The company also recorded total sales of 50.28 MT, reflecting strong demand and efficient operational performance across its mining projects.

This achievement highlights NMDC’s growing capacity and its crucial role in meeting the raw material needs of India’s steel industry.

First Indian Miner to Cross 50 MT Production Mark

With this performance, NMDC has become the first iron ore mining company in India to surpass 50 MT in annual production. The milestone marks a significant achievement for the country’s mining sector and reinforces NMDC’s position as the nation’s largest iron ore producer.

Officials said the record output reflects sustained efforts to improve mining efficiency and expand production capacity.

Strong Support for India’s Steel Industry

The record production is expected to strengthen raw material availability for India’s expanding steel sector. Rising domestic iron ore output supports the government’s push for self-reliance and reduces dependency on imports.

It also aligns with India’s long-term infrastructure development goals, where steel demand is projected to grow significantly in the coming years.

Contribution to Industrial Growth and Self-Reliance

As a Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Steel, NMDC Limited plays a key role in supporting domestic steel manufacturers. The company’s performance in FY26 underscores its contribution to industrial growth, infrastructure development, and the broader vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Established in 1958, NMDC specializes in mining, exploration, and beneficiation of iron ore, with key operations in Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, and other states.
