New Delhi: NTPC Limited, a Maharatna public sector power company, has committed ₹24.20 crore over the next four years to support archery development in India. The initiative strengthens NTPC’s long-term partnership with the Archery Association of India (AAI) and aims to expand opportunities for emerging athletes through national tournaments, sports infrastructure, equipment support and professional training.

NTPC has been supporting archery through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives since November 2018, when it made an initial commitment of ₹16.18 crore. The partnership was renewed in September 2025, with a fresh commitment of ₹24.20 crore for another four years.

NTPC Supports 53 National Archery Tournaments

NTPC’s partnership with the Archery Association of India supports national championships across sub-junior, junior and senior categories, along with National Ranking Archery Tournaments. These competitions provide athletes with structured opportunities to develop their skills, gain competitive experience and progress towards international events.

With NTPC’s support, around 53 national tournaments and championships have been organised, recording approximately 24,096 participant entries.

The company has also supported kits and uniforms for Indian archers participating in international competitions. This assistance has covered 1,145 athlete participations across 88 events, helping athletes access essential sporting equipment while representing the country.

NTPC Commits ₹5.28 Crore for Archery Academy in Mizoram

As part of its efforts to strengthen sports infrastructure, NTPC is supporting the establishment of an archery academy in Mizoram.

In October 2025, NTPC Bongaigaon signed an agreement with the Mizoram State Sports Council to establish the academy at Lengpui in Mamit district. The project involves a financial commitment of ₹5.28 crore over three years.

The proposed academy will provide:

  • Professional archery coaching.
  • Modern equipment and structured training facilities.
  • Opportunities to prepare for district-, state- and national-level competitions.
  • Improved access to specialised archery training for emerging athletes.

The initiative aims to strengthen sporting opportunities in the Northeast and bring professional training facilities closer to young talent.

NTPC’s Archery Support Extends to Women and Para Athletes

NTPC’s archery development initiatives extend beyond organising tournaments. The company also supports women and para archers through scholarships, equipment assistance, sports science and competitive exposure.

These measures aim to build a sustainable talent pipeline by supporting athletes from the grassroots level through national competitions and international events. The focus is on creating an environment in which emerging archers can develop their abilities and gain the experience needed to compete at higher levels.

Athletes’ Achievements Highlight the Importance of Grassroots Support

The impact of sustained support for archery is reflected in the journeys of athletes such as Kumkum Anil Mohod from Amravati, Maharashtra. According to the supplied press release, she began her archery journey with a bow purchased by her grandmother before progressing to the international stage.

The release also attributes major achievements to Mohod at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, including gold in the women’s individual recurve event and India’s first women’s team recurve gold at the Games.

Note: These specific 2026 Asian Games claims should be independently verified before publication.

NTPC Expands CSR Support Beyond Power Generation

NTPC’s sports development programme forms part of its broader CSR engagement beyond its core power generation business. Through support for tournaments, training facilities, equipment and athletes, the company aims to strengthen sporting infrastructure and expand opportunities for young talent across India.

Its continued partnership with the Archery Association of India and investment in the proposed Mizoram academy reflect a long-term approach to developing archery at both the grassroots and competitive levels.
