NTPC Bongaigaon Signs MoA to Launch Mobile Science Labs for STEM Education in Assam

Rs 57.88 Lakh CSR Initiative to Cover 60 Government Schools with Hands-On Science Learning and Experiential Labs

New Delhi: NTPC Bongaigaon has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Seva Bharati Purbanchal to roll out a Mobile Science Lab Project across 60 government schools in the districts of Bongaigaon, Chirang, and Kokrajhar. The initiative, undertaken under NTPC’s Corporate Strategic CSR framework, carries a total investment of Rs 57.88 lakh and aims to strengthen science education through experiential and activity-based learning.

The MoA was signed by Riju Dutta, Secretary, Seva Bharati Purbanchal, and Mr. Amit Kumar Asthana, Head of HR, NTPC Bongaigaon, in the presence of senior representatives from both organisations, including Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, Sanjiv Barman, Joint Secretary, Seva Bharati Purbanchal, Sanjiv Bist, Coordinator, and Surendra Talkelkar. Officials from NTPC’s HR and CSR teams were also present.

Project Scope and Implementation

Seva Bharati Purbanchal, a CSR-registered organisation with expertise in education-focused interventions in the North-East, will implement the project. Covering 20 schools in each district, the initiative will deploy fully equipped mobile laboratory vans outfitted with:

  • Scientific instruments and demonstration models
  • Digital teaching aids for practical science learning
  • Microscopes, telescopes, solar energy kits, optics and rocket models
  • Laptops, projectors, and other learning tools

The mobile labs will provide students with hands-on exposure to concepts in physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, and renewable energy, fostering scientific curiosity and promoting STEM education.

Capacity Building and Long-Term Impact

The project also includes the deployment of trained lab instructors, preparation of IEC materials, and capacity-building programmes to ensure long-term effectiveness. Regular field monitoring, periodic reporting, and submission of utilisation certificates will be conducted as per CSR guidelines to ensure transparency and accountability.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, emphasized that the initiative demonstrates NTPC’s commitment to enhancing the education ecosystem in its operational regions. By taking science learning beyond textbooks, the project aims to nurture scientific thinking and support the development of future-ready human capital in Assam.

The project is planned for one-year implementation, with structured monitoring to ensure timely delivery of objectives.
