Bokuloni, Dibrugarh (Assam): In a major step towards strengthening regional energy security, Oil India Limited (OIL) has signed a 15-year Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement (GSPA) with North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) for the continued supply of 1.4 MMSCMD of natural gas to the Assam Gas Based Power Station (AGBPS) in Bokuloni, Dibrugarh.

This long-term agreement succeeds a previous 10-year arrangement and reaffirms the commitment of both entities to ensuring sustainable and reliable energy supply to Assam and the Northeast region.

Strategic Move to Secure Power for the Northeast

The agreement was formally executed at the AGBPS office in Bokuloni by Mr. Ranjan Goswami, Executive Director (Business Development), OIL, and Mr. Bijit Kumar Goswami, Executive Director (Operation & Maintenance), NEEPCO.

AGBPS, the largest gas-based power plant in Assam, plays a critical role in meeting the base-load power demands of the region. The renewed GSPA ensures the continuity of operations at this strategic facility, which supports both grid stability and affordable power access for the Northeastern states.

Commitment to Clean and Reliable Energy

The signing of the 15-year GSPA reflects OIL’s confidence in its domestic natural gas reserves and its capability to sustain long-term supply obligations. The partnership between OIL and NEEPCO also aligns with India’s broader vision of transitioning to a gas-based economy and promoting cleaner energy alternatives.

“OIL remains focused on expanding its upstream operations and securing long-term gas supply contracts to support national and regional energy goals,” said a company spokesperson.

Powering the Northeast Together

This agreement marks another milestone in the longstanding partnership between OIL and NEEPCO. Together, the two public sector enterprises continue to play a pivotal role in energizing the Northeast, ensuring that industrial, commercial, and domestic power needs are met with efficiency and reliability.
