Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation’s empowered standing committee has approved 93 development schemes, including three mega commercial complexes worth ₹530.09 crore and projects worth ₹261.84 crore for vending zones, commercial facilities, community buildings and marriage halls.

The proposals were approved at a meeting chaired by Mayor Sita Sahu and will now be placed before the municipal corporation council for final approval.

Three Mega Complexes Planned

Under the Bihar Urban Transformation Project, three commercial complexes will be developed with World Bank financial assistance. The complexes are planned to bring clothing, electronics, grocery, food and entertainment facilities together while creating additional revenue for the civic body.

The proposed projects include a ₹133.09 crore complex on 1.20 acres at Arya Kumar Road, a ₹97 crore complex near Khaitan Market on one acre, and a ₹300 crore complex near the AN College water tank on three acres.

New Spaces for Street Vendors

The corporation has approved ₹261.84 crore for 15 vending zones and other civic facilities. The projects will use municipal land, controlled sites and spaces beneath bridges.

Vending zones are planned at locations including Machhli Bazaar, Anta Ghat, Beur Mor, Bahadurpur, NIT Mor, Danka, Gayghat and areas near Sati Chowk.

The plan also includes parking and vending shops between Boring Road Chowk and Rajapur Bridge, a commercial complex near Rajapur Bridge, a hotel near Sheikhpura Mor, and vending zones, marriage halls and community buildings at several other locations.

Robotic Cleaning Gets a Push

The civic body will purchase 12 robotic rover machines for cleaning manholes, drains and other areas. The machines will be mounted on light motor vehicles, with operation and maintenance included in the project.

The corporation has also approved a fresh four-year tender for a cleaning agency. The agency will handle door-to-door waste collection, source segregation, transportation of waste and manual and mechanical road sweeping.

Pataliputra Festival Approved

The committee has also approved the Pataliputra Festival to mark the 75th anniversary of the Patna Municipal Corporation.

The festival is expected to support tourism, employment, handicrafts and local businesses. The proposal estimates an economic benefit of ₹325 crore to ₹540 crore, against an expected expenditure of ₹20 crore to ₹25 crore.

Roads, Drains and Water Supply

A range of infrastructure works are also part of the approved schemes, including road and drain construction and repairs, water-supply pipeline expansion, new connections and high-capacity borewells.

The corporation has approved 849 schemes under Parshad Ek Crore Yojana 4.0, along with community buildings, road naming proposals and reconstruction of selected facilities.

Better Toilets and Street Lighting

Sanitation works include new toilets, three submersible pumps for pink toilets and other related improvements.

The corporation will also install new street lights and automate existing lighting systems to improve monitoring and operations. Chlorinators will be installed at 93 water-supply centres to strengthen water-supply measures.

The wide-ranging approvals cover commercial development, street vending, waste management, sanitation, roads, water supply, lighting and community infrastructure. Their implementation will depend on final approval from the municipal corporation council.
