Bengaluru: The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Sundaresan S, Executive Director and SBU Head – Metro Rail & Vande Bharat Sleeper Production at BEML Limited, for the post of Director (Mining & Construction Business).
The recommendation was made during PESB Meeting No. 69/2026, held on August 11 at 8:45 AM. Sundaresan S was selected after interviews with 11 candidates for the board-level position.
His appointment is subject to approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). The post is expected to fall vacant on October 1, 2026.
Who Is Sundaresan S?
Sundaresan S is a long-serving BEML executive with extensive experience in the company. He was promoted to Executive Director in January 2026, after serving as Chief General Manager.
He currently heads the Metro Rail and Vande Bharat Sleeper Production vertical at BEML’s Bengaluru Complex.
In his current role, Sundaresan has been associated with major metro rolling stock projects for Bengaluru and other cities, as well as Vande Bharat sleeper production activities.

Key Responsibilities of Director (Mining & Construction Business)
The Director (Mining & Construction Business) is a Board-level position and reports to the Chairman & Managing Director of BEML.
The selected executive will be responsible for the overall performance and growth of BEML’s Mining & Construction business.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the overall performance of the Mining & Construction business.
- Leading the design, manufacturing and marketing of earthmoving and construction equipment.
- Driving new product development and indigenisation.
- Ensuring achievement of MoU targets with the Government.
- Strengthening business growth, operational efficiency and market presence.
The Mining & Construction business is one of BEML’s major revenue-contributing segments.

PESB interviewed 11 candidates for the Director (Mining & Construction Business) position.
The candidates were:

Following the interview process, PESB recommended Sundaresan S for the position.
Appointment Subject to ACC Approval
The PESB recommendation is not the final appointment. Sundaresan S’s appointment will be subject to approval by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
The position is expected to become vacant from October 1, 2026. Following the required approvals, Sundaresan is expected to take charge of the Mining & Construction Business at the Board level.
