New Delhi: Petronet LNG Limited has approved the appointment of Sanjay Kumar as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company.
The decision was taken by the Board of Directors at its meeting held on 2 October 2026. Kumar, who currently serves as Director (Marketing) at GAIL (India) Limited, will take charge as MD & CEO of Petronet LNG from the date of vacancy, 13 May 2027.
The appointment follows the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee of the Board.
Sanjay Kumar to Take Charge as Petronet LNG MD & CEO
Sanjay Kumar is currently serving as Director (Marketing) at GAIL (India) Limited. His appointment at Petronet LNG will become effective from 13 May 2027.

Sanjay Kumar’s 35+ Years of Natural Gas and LNG Experience
Sanjay Kumar brings more than 35 years of experience across the natural gas and LNG value chain.
He is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from IIT Kharagpur and also holds an MBA.
Kumar joined GAIL in 1988 and has worked across several areas of the energy sector, including:
- Gas marketing
- LNG sourcing
- LNG trading
- Shipping
- Business development
- Natural gas transmission
- Pipeline project management
His extensive experience spans both domestic and international aspects of the natural gas and LNG business.
From GAIL to Petronet LNG Leadership
Kumar assumed charge as Director (Marketing) at GAIL on 15 June 2023. Before this, he served as Managing Director of Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), taking charge of the position in April 2022.
Earlier in his career, Kumar was given the responsibility of establishing GAIL Global (Singapore) Pte. in 2011.
The Singapore entity was GAIL’s first overseas LNG trading subsidiary established by an Indian oil and gas PSU. Kumar spent the following five years working towards establishing its presence in international markets.
Petronet LNG Discloses Appointment to Stock Exchanges
Petronet LNG has informed the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) about the appointment in compliance with Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
The company stated that detailed disclosures related to Kumar’s appointment will be submitted to the stock exchanges once he assumes charge as Managing Director and CEO.
