Why Is Police Commemoration Day Observed on October 21?
Police Commemoration Day is observed annually on October 21 to honour police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The date commemorates the sacrifice of 10 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel who were killed in an encounter with Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh on October 21, 1959, while carrying out a reconnaissance patrol.
Their sacrifice became the basis for the annual observance, which honours police personnel across the country who have died while performing their duties.
