Gujarat: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has been declared the successful bidder under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process for a major inter-state transmission project in Gujarat. The project has a discovered tariff of ₹822.91 crore per annum and will support the integration of large-scale renewable energy into the interstate transmission grid.
POWERGRID Receives Letter of Intent for Gujarat Transmission Project
POWERGRID received the Letter of Intent (LoI) on August 21, 2026, for the project titled “Transmission System for Integration of Power from RE Projects in Jam Khambhaliya REZ in Gujarat – Phase II (5,500 MW) and Jamnagar Phase-I (1,000 MW)”.
The project will be developed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis.
With a total planned renewable energy integration capacity of 6,500 MW, the project is expected to strengthen Gujarat’s transmission infrastructure and support the evacuation of renewable power to the interstate grid.

Key Components of the POWERGRID Project
The transmission project will involve the development and augmentation of major power transmission infrastructure across Gujarat.
Key components include:
- New GIS substation at Kalyanpur, Gujarat
- ICT augmentation and bay extension works at under-construction substations in Gujarat
- Construction of 765 kV transmission lines across Gujarat
- Integration of renewable energy generation from the Jam Khambhaliya Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) and Jamnagar
These facilities will help facilitate the evacuation and integration of renewable power generated from the identified renewable energy zones.
6,500 MW Renewable Energy Integration Capacity
The project will support renewable energy integration from two major areas:
- Jam Khambhaliya REZ Phase II: 5,500 MW
- Jamnagar Phase-I: 1,000 MW
- Total integration capacity: 6,500 MW
The development is expected to improve renewable power evacuation capacity and strengthen the interstate transmission system.
₹822.91 Crore Annual Tariff
POWERGRID has emerged as the successful bidder under the TBCB process with a discovered tariff of ₹822.91 crore per annum.
The successful bid further strengthens POWERGRID’s position in India’s expanding renewable energy transmission network. The project also reflects the growing importance of transmission infrastructure in supporting the country’s clean-energy expansion.
