Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has announced the successful commissioning of an 85 MW Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Power Plant at Nagda in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Developed through its wholly owned subsidiary, POWERGRID Energy Services Limited (PESL), the plant was declared commercially operational on April 24, 2025.
This solar project marks a significant milestone in POWERGRID’s expanding presence in the renewable energy sector. The plant is expected to make a notable contribution to clean energy generation in the region and support India’s broader energy transition objectives.
In a parallel development, POWERGRID also confirmed the full commissioning of the Raipur Pool–Dhamtari Transmission Line as of March 26, 2025. This transmission line will enhance the reliability and capacity of power delivery across the central region.
POWERGRID Energy Services Limited (PESL), incorporated on March 14, 2022, was established to spearhead energy management projects both within India and internationally. It plays a vital role in diversifying POWERGRID’s business into areas such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, and grid modernization.
Additionally, the Unified Network Management System (UNMS) Control Center has been inaugurated to enable 24×7 centralized supervision and monitoring. Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), inaugurated the new AI-enabled UNMS setup, which will offer pan-India oversight capabilities.
The UNMS Control Center and the CTU Urja Meter Portal are key initiatives aimed at modernizing power system operations. The Urja Meter Portal, launched by the Central Transmission Utility of India Limited (CTUIL), enhances ease of doing business by ensuring timely provisioning and management of Interface Energy Meters (IEMs) and Special Energy Meters (SEMs) by CTU and POWERGRID.
