Ankit Kaul, an Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Taxes) officer from Jammu and Kashmir, has been appointed as Deputy Director in the Narcotics Control Bureau on deputation for a period of four years.
A 2015-batch IRS officer, Kaul will now take on a crucial role in India’s anti-narcotics enforcement framework.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Ankit Kaul cleared the Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination and underwent professional training at the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics. He holds a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree.
Before joining the NCB, Kaul served under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), including as Deputy Commissioner in the Siliguri GST and Central Excise Zone.
KEY ROLE IN NCB
The appointment is seen as significant given Kaul’s experience in customs, taxation and enforcement-related administration. At the NCB, he is expected to contribute to investigations and coordination efforts related to narcotics control and cross-border smuggling networks.
