New Delhi: NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has announced two significant developments aimed at expanding its presence in the critical minerals and renewable energy sectors. The company received Letters of Intent (LoIs) for two critical mineral blocks in Telangana and incorporated a new joint venture with the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) on August 31, 2026.

The developments form part of NLC India’s broader strategy to diversify its portfolio and strengthen its presence in emerging areas of the energy sector.

NLC India Receives LoI for Two Critical Mineral Blocks

NLC India has received the Letter of Intent (LoI) from the Government of Telangana for the grant of Composite Licences for two critical mineral blocks located in Sanga Reddy district.

The blocks are:

  • Govindpur Vanadium, Titanium & Aluminous Laterite Block
  • Parvathapur Vanadium, Titanium & Aluminous Laterite Block

NLCIL emerged as the Preferred Bidder for both blocks during the 7th Tranche of the Critical and Strategic Mineral auction conducted by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India.

Focus on Vanadium, Titanium and Aluminous Laterite

The two blocks contain vanadium, titanium and aluminous laterite, which are considered important minerals for various industrial applications. The acquisition of these blocks marks an expansion of NLC India’s activities in the critical and strategic minerals segment.

The move also supports the broader national focus on strengthening domestic exploration and development of critical mineral resources.

NLC India Forms Green Energy JV With OREDA

In a separate development, NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), the wholly owned subsidiary of NLC India, has incorporated a new joint venture company with the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA).

The new company has been incorporated as:

NIRL OREDA Renewables Limited

The key details of the joint venture are:

  • Equity participation: NIRL 51% and OREDA 49%
  • Purpose: Setting up green energy power plants
  • Certificate of Incorporation: Issued by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs
  • Date of incorporation: August 31, 2026

The 51:49 partnership gives NIRL the majority stake while bringing OREDA into the joint venture as the strategic partner for green energy development.

NLC India Expands Beyond Conventional Energy

The two developments highlight NLC India’s increasing focus on areas beyond its traditional energy operations.

The critical mineral blocks in Telangana strengthen the company’s position in strategically important mineral resources, while the new JV with OREDA expands its renewable energy footprint.
