A major controversy has erupted in Punjab Police after a senior woman constable, Amandeep Kaur, was arrested in Bathinda with 17.7 grams of heroin near the Badal flyover. Her arrest followed allegations by a private citizen, Harmeet Kaur, who went live on Facebook accusing Amandeep of having an affair with her husband and being protected by an IPS officer. Harmeet’s inputs reportedly helped Bathinda Police track and arrest Amandeep.
While the identity of the IPS officer is not confirmed, he is believed to be serving in one of the three commissionerates—Amritsar, Ludhiana, or Jalandhar. Despite not yet recording Harmeet’s statement, Punjab ADGP Sukhchain Gill announced Amandeep’s dismissal from service just hours after her arrest. Bathinda Police stated they may seek further directions from DGP Gaurav Yadav before summoning Harmeet, given the sensitivity of the case. Meanwhile, sources say Harmeet has revealed more details that could deepen the investigation.
