Dehradun/Champawat: Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, virtually laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the historic Vaarahi Dham temple located in Champawat. The ceremony was conducted from his official residence in Dehradun.
He described the project as a significant step toward enhancing both the spiritual and cultural value of the temple, stating that the redevelopment will give the shrine a more grand and attractive form.
Temple to Become Symbol of Faith and Development
Speaking at the event, CM Dhami highlighted that the ancient Vaarahi Dham has been a center of faith, devotion, and spiritual energy for centuries. He expressed confidence that the newly redeveloped temple will emerge not only as a religious landmark but also as a symbol of prosperity and regional development.
He emphasized that Uttarakhand’s temples—including Char Dham, Shakti Peeths, and Siddh Peeths—represent the core of India’s Sanatan cultural heritage.

Cultural Significance of Bagwal Fair Highlighted
The Chief Minister also referred to the famous Bagwal fair held at Vaarahi Dham Devi Dhura, calling it a unique blend of bravery, tradition, and collective faith. He noted that the state government has officially declared the fair a state festival, underlining its cultural importance.
Focus on Development of Manaskhand Region
CM Dhami reiterated the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting Uttarakhand’s spiritual heritage. He said the state is working to establish itself as a global spiritual destination.
Alongside the development of Kedarkhand, the government is now focusing on the beautification and development of ancient temples in the Manaskhand region.
Major Development Projects in Champawat
Highlighting ongoing infrastructure and tourism projects in Champawat, the Chief Minister shared updates on key initiatives:
- Sharda Corridor Project: Redevelopment of Sharda Ghat is underway with an investment of ₹179 crore.
- Golju Corridor Project: Construction work worth approximately ₹430 crore is currently in progress to boost tourism and connectivity.
These projects aim to strengthen the region’s tourism potential and improve visitor experience.
Government’s Vision for Spiritual Tourism
CM Dhami credited Narendra Modi for promoting development alongside the preservation of religious and cultural heritage across the country. He reaffirmed that Uttarakhand is being developed as the “spiritual capital of the world.”

The virtual foundation-laying ceremony was attended by several prominent figures, including BJP district president Govind Samant and members of the Vaarahi Shakti Peeth Trust, along with other local dignitaries.
The redevelopment of Vaarahi Dham marks a significant step in Uttarakhand’s broader strategy to enhance religious tourism while preserving its rich cultural and spiritual legacy. The project is expected to attract more pilgrims and boost the local economy in the coming years.
