The desert state of Rajasthan famous for its Kota coaching centres has also turned out to be one of the states which gave maximum number of IAS officers to the country. Recently, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) declared the results of the 2022 Civil Services Examination, which showed a good percentage of Rajasthan youths who made it to the merit list.
This time UPSC has selected 933 candidates for various services. Of these, around 180 posts are for IAS. Out of the 933, a total of 26 youths are from Rajasthan, which is now one of the three highest IAS officers grossing state apart from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. If you look at the 70-year history, from 1951 to 2021, as many as 717 from Uttar Pradesh, 452 from Bihar and 322 candidates from Rajasthan have been selected in IAS.
Eastern Rajasthan village Bamanwas in Sawai Madhopur district has till now produced over 150 IAS, IPS, IRS and RAS officers. Although Sawai Madhopur, Dausa and Barmer are considered backward districts yet till date more than 30 youths have become IAS officers from there districts.
On the other hand, Jaipur, Kota, Jodhpur and Udaipur, which are considered developed, have fallen behind. Every year 10-12 youths get selected from Thar Bhoomi Barmer district. Similarly, the level of education is very high in Sikar and Jhunjhunu of Shekhawati, which produce 10 to 12 selected candidates every year. Even if they do not get the post of IAS, they are selected for Revenue, Foreign and Forest Services among others.
In the last decade, two youths from Rajasthan, Kanishak Kataria and Gaurav Agarwal, had secured the first position in the entire country in this examination.
The eight districts of Rajasthan that have produced the maximum number of Indian Administrative Service officers are Jaipur, Sikar, Jodhpur, Barmer, Sawai Madhopur, Dausa, Bharatpur and Bikaner.
