Ranchi: Jharkhand is set to get its first 10-lane smart road, with the project costing around Rs 177 crore. The road will introduce modern facilities aimed at improving connectivity, safety and commuter convenience.
Work and Survey Begin
The tender has been awarded to West Bengal-based company Ramchandra Pal, and the work allocation has been completed. Survey work has also started with the involvement of the State Highway Authority of Jharkhand (SAJ).

Green Spaces and Walking Facilities
The smart road will feature benches, chairs and shelter-like structures where people can sit and rest. Walking facilities will also receive special attention.
Large-scale plantation will take place along the median and both sides of the road. Flowering plants will also be added to improve the appearance of the corridor.
Road Will Connect Key Locations
The road will start near Vivekananda School Morh, beyond the Old Assembly area, and connect key locations including Jagannath Temple, the High Court and the Assembly building before reaching Nayasarai ROB.
The project includes a 6.089-km six-lane main road from Vivekananda School Morh to Nayasarai ROB, along with service roads and two-lane paved shoulders.
A further 2.12-km stretch from Nayasarai ROB through Nayasarai to the Ring Road will also be widened, with a two-lane road and paved shoulder.
Cycle Track and Solar Power
The main section will include a dedicated cycle track, wider footpaths and improved service roads.
Solar panels will be installed above the cycle track. The solar power generated through the system will help illuminate the road at night, adding a renewable-energy feature to the project.
The smart road is expected to improve urban mobility while adding pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, green spaces and modern lighting facilities to Ranchi’s road network.
