Ranchi: The Executive Committee of the State Water and Sanitation Mission (SWSM) held a meeting in Ranchi to review preparations for a proposed departmental summit under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The meeting was chaired by Departmental Secretary Abu Imran.
The meeting focused on issues related to the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, including timely execution of water infrastructure projects, the Catch the Rain campaign, sustainability of drinking-water sources and the operation and maintenance of rural water-supply schemes.
Water-Source Sustainability and Scheme Maintenance Discussed
A significant part of the discussion focused on ensuring the sustainability of drinking-water sources and the continued operation and maintenance of rural water-supply schemes.
The meeting also discussed:
- Timely implementation of water infrastructure projects
- Sustainability of drinking-water sources
- Operation and maintenance of rural water-supply schemes
- The ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign
- Roles and responsibilities of different departments
- Coordination among departments involved in the programme
Officials discussed the need for coordinated action on water-source sustainability and the operation of rural water-supply schemes.

Representatives from several state departments participated in the meeting, including:
- Panchayati Raj Department
- Water Resources Department
- Information and Public Relations Department
- Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperation Department
- Women and Child Development Department
UNICEF WASH experts also attended the meeting.
Proposed Departmental Summit to Take Forward Jal Jeevan Mission
The meeting reviewed preparations for the proposed departmental summit and discussed using the platform to coordinate the roles of different departments involved in the Jal Jeevan Mission.
The discussions also covered measures for the long-term availability of water sources and the operation and maintenance of rural water-supply schemes, with a focus on the mission’s objective of providing tap water to households in rural areas.
