New Delhi: Rear Admiral C. Raghuram (Retd.), VSM, has officially assumed charge as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), effective July 2. The announcement was made by the defence public sector shipyard on Thursday. He will lead the organisation from its headquarters in Visakhapatnam.
A Veteran Naval Officer with 35+ Years of Experience
Rear Admiral Chandrasekharan Raghuram was commissioned into the Indian Navy on November 10, 1989. Over a distinguished career spanning more than three and a half decades, he has built extensive expertise in naval engineering, ship maintenance, strategic planning, and leadership roles across key operational and command appointments.
He is an alumnus of:
- Naval College of Engineering, Lonavala
- Cranfield University, United Kingdom
- Naval War College
- National Defence College
His academic and professional training has contributed to his deep understanding of warship design, lifecycle support, and defence systems integration.
Extensive Naval Career and Key Appointments
During his service in the Indian Navy, Rear Admiral Raghuram has held several important positions across operational and technical domains.
He has served onboard frontline warships, including:
- INS Gomati
- INS Trishul (as part of the commissioning crew)
His technical and support assignments include roles at:
- Naval Dockyard
- Afloat Support Team for Talwar-class ships
- Weapons and Electronics Systems Engineering Establishment (WESEE)
These roles strengthened his expertise in lifecycle support, maintenance systems, and combat system integration.

Rear Admiral Raghuram has held several senior leadership positions, including:
- Commanding Officer, INS Valsura
- Principal Director (Electrical Engineering), Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy)
