New Delhi: The Ministry of Coal has announced a significant but temporary leadership transition at NLC India Limited, appointing senior bureaucrat Sanoj Kumar Jha as the Additional Charge Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) for an initial period of three months starting July 1, 2026.
The decision comes following the superannuation of the outgoing CMD, marking a routine administrative transition to ensure continuity at the public sector energy major.
Appointment Approved by Ministry of Coal
The appointment was formally approved by the Hon’ble Minister of Coal and issued through an official government directive by the Establishment Division of the Ministry of Coal.
As per the order, Sanoj Kumar Jha, who is currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry and also holds the position of Nominee Director on the board of NLC India Limited, will assume additional responsibility as CMD.
The arrangement is designed to maintain operational stability at the Navratna PSU during the interim leadership period.

Tenure and Terms of Appointment
According to the official directive:
- The additional charge is effective from July 1, 2026
- The initial tenure is three months
- The arrangement will continue until:
- A regular full-time CMD is appointed, or
- Further government orders are issued, whichever is earlier
This temporary assignment ensures that the company continues to function smoothly during the transition phase.
Superannuation of Former CMD
The leadership change follows the retirement of the outgoing CMD, Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, who ceased to hold office upon attaining the age of superannuation on June 30, 2026 (AN).
His cessation marked the end of his tenure as Chairman and Managing Director of NLC India Limited.
Regulatory Disclosure to Stock Exchanges
The change in leadership was formally communicated to the stock exchanges in compliance with Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
The disclosure filing was submitted to:
- National Stock Exchange of India (NSE)
- BSE Ltd.
The filing was signed by Sushanta Kumar Panda, who serves as Company Secretary and Compliance Officer of NLC India Limited.
