REC Limited Appoints Two Independent Directors to Strengthen Board Governance

REC Limited has appointed Dr. Anil Kumar Gupta and Dr. Kanchiappan Ghayathri Devi as Part-time Non-Official Independent Directors following approval from the Ministry of Power, Government of India.

New Delhi: State-owned REC Limited has announced the appointment of Dr. Anil Kumar Gupta and Dr. Kanchiappan Ghayathri Devi as Part-time Non-Official Independent Directors on its Board. The appointments have been made following an order issued by the Ministry of Power, Government of India, and are in line with SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.

Both directors officially assumed charge on June 22, 2026, and will serve for a period of three months or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Ministry of Power Approval and Regulatory Compliance

The appointments were approved by the Ministry of Power as part of standard governance procedures aimed at strengthening oversight in public sector enterprises.

REC Limited confirmed that both appointees have submitted declarations stating that they are not debarred from holding directorships by SEBI or any other regulatory authority, ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements.

The two individuals appointed as Independent Directors are:

Profile of Dr. Anil Kumar Gupta

Dr. Anil Kumar Gupta is a noted environmentalist and governance expert with extensive experience in sustainability, MSME development, and environmental regulation.

He holds multiple academic qualifications, including:

  • M.Sc. in Environmental Science
  • MBA
  • MA
  • LLB
  • PhD

He has also undertaken specialized studies at IIT Roorkee and IISc Bengaluru.

Professional Experience

Dr. Gupta has served in several advisory and leadership capacities, including roles connected to environmental regulatory bodies and industrial pollution management committees. He is also associated with:

  • Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)
  • Delhi Pollution Control Committee
  • Expert Appraisal Committee for Environmental Impact Assessment

He currently serves as an Independent Director on the Board of NTPC Limited.

Profile of Dr. Kanchiappan Ghayathri Devi

Dr. Kanchiappan Ghayathri Devi is a medical professional with extensive experience in healthcare, public service, and governance.

Academic Qualifications

  • MBBS
  • Diploma in Medical Cosmetology
  • MBA in Hospital Management

Professional Experience

She has been actively involved in public life and governance roles, including:

  • Member, State Women’s Commission (2007–2010)
  • Member of Legislative Assembly (2006–2011)
  • Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Ministry of Environment and Forests (2011–2014)
  • Medical Practitioner at Suriyaa Diagnostics (since 1997)

She is also serving as an Independent Director on the Board of NTPC Limited.
