New Delhi: REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited, has handed over two interstate power transmission project Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) to their successful bidders, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) and Ceigall India Limited. The handovers took place on October 12, 2026, following the selection of the developers through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process.
The projects are aimed at strengthening India’s interstate power transmission network and supporting the evacuation of renewable energy from major renewable energy zones in Gujarat and other regions. RECPDCL acted as the Bid Process Coordinator for both projects.
The two SPVs handed over were Lakadia II Power Transmission Limited, awarded to PGCIL, and Jam Khambhaliya Jamnagar Power Transmission Limited, awarded to Ceigall India Limited. Both projects will be implemented under the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model and are scheduled for completion within 36 months.
RECPDCL Hands Over Lakadia II Power Transmission Project to PGCIL
RECPDCL handed over the project-specific SPV, Lakadia II Power Transmission Limited, to Power Grid Corporation of India Limited for the interstate transmission project titled “Transmission System for Integration of Power from RE Projects in Lakadia REZ in Gujarat – Phase II (7,500 MW).”
PGCIL emerged as the successful bidder for the project under the TBCB route.
The SPV was formally handed over by T. S. C. Bosh, Director (Projects), REC Limited, to Arup Samanta, General Manager (CS), PGCIL. The handover ceremony was attended by Amit Bhargav, Executive Director (TBCB), PGCIL, along with other senior officials from PGCIL and RECPDCL.
Key Infrastructure Under the Lakadia II Transmission Project
The project envisages the development of a major transmission system to facilitate the evacuation of renewable energy from the Lakadia Renewable Energy Zone in Gujarat.
The key components of the project include:
- Lakadia-II substation: Establishment of a 765/400 kV substation near Chitrod, with a planned capacity configuration of 6 × 1,500 MVA and 10 × 500 MVA at the 400/220 kV level.
- Synchronous condensers: Installation of two synchronous condensers at the Lakadia-II substation to support grid stability.
- Lakadia II–Halvad transmission line: A 765 kV double-circuit line spanning approximately 141 km.
- Lakadia II–Ahmedabad transmission line: A 765 kV double-circuit line spanning approximately 197 km.
- Lakadia II–Vataman transmission line: A 765 kV double-circuit line spanning approximately 261 km.
- Associated transmission works: Development of supporting infrastructure required to integrate the transmission facilities into the interstate grid.
The transmission system is designed to support the integration and evacuation of up to 7,500 MW of renewable energy from the Lakadia Renewable Energy Zone.
The project is scheduled for implementation within 36 months.

Ceigall India Receives Jam Khambhaliya Jamnagar Transmission Project
RECPDCL also handed over the project-specific SPV, Jam Khambhaliya Jamnagar Power Transmission Limited, to Ceigall India Limited.
Ceigall India emerged as the successful bidder for the interstate transmission project titled “Common Transmission System for Evacuation of Power from Lakadia (Phase-II: 7.5 GW), Jam Khambhaliya (Phase-II: 5.5 GW) and Jamnagar (Phase-I: 1 GW) – Part-B.”
The project will facilitate the evacuation of renewable power from three renewable energy zones, with a combined planned capacity of 14 GW. The SPV was formally handed over by T. S. C. Bosh, Director (Projects), REC Limited, to Ayyalusamy Saravanan, Chief Executive Officer, Ceigall India Limited. Senior officials from Ceigall India and RECPDCL were also present at the handover ceremony.
Key Infrastructure Under the Jam Khambhaliya Jamnagar Project
The project broadly envisages the development of high-voltage substations, transmission lines and associated infrastructure to strengthen the transmission network for renewable energy evacuation.
The principal components include:
- Nasik substation: Establishment of a 765/400 kV substation with a planned configuration of 3 × 1,500 MVA, along with a 400/220 kV substation configured for 3 × 500 MVA.
- Nasik–South Olpad transmission line: A 765 kV double-circuit transmission line spanning approximately 266 km.
- Nasik–Pimpalgaon transmission line: A 400 kV double-circuit transmission line spanning approximately 40 km, connecting Nasik with Pimpalgaon in the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL) network.
- Associated works: Supporting transmission infrastructure required for power evacuation and grid connectivity.
The project will support the transfer of renewable electricity generated in the Lakadia, Jam Khambhaliya and Jamnagar renewable energy zones to the wider power network.
It is also scheduled for implementation within 36 months under the BOOT model.
Both Projects to Be Developed Under BOOT Model
The two interstate transmission projects will be implemented under the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model, under which the selected developers will undertake the development and operation of the infrastructure in accordance with the applicable project and concession arrangements.
Both projects have a scheduled implementation period of 36 months.
The use of the TBCB route enables the selection of developers through a competitive bidding process for the development of major transmission infrastructure.
Transmission Projects to Support India’s Renewable Energy Integration
The development of interstate transmission infrastructure is essential for connecting renewable energy generation centres with electricity demand across different regions of the country.
The Lakadia II project will support the evacuation of up to 7,500 MW of renewable energy from Gujarat’s Lakadia Renewable Energy Zone. Meanwhile, the Jam Khambhaliya Jamnagar project will support power evacuation from three renewable energy zones with a combined planned capacity of 14 GW.
Together, the projects are expected to strengthen grid connectivity, improve the movement of renewable electricity and support the integration of large-scale renewable energy capacity into India’s power system.
