New Delhi: REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL) has handed over Balsane Power Transmission Limited, a project-specific Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), to successful bidder Resonia Limited for developing an intra-state power transmission project in Maharashtra.
The SPV was handed over on September 28, 2026. Resonia Limited emerged as the successful bidder through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process conducted by RECPDCL, which served as the Bid Process Coordinator.The project will be developed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis and is aimed at strengthening Maharashtra’s intra-state transmission network.
765/400/220 kV Substation to Come Up at Balsane
The project envisages the establishment of a 765/400/220 kV Air Insulated Substation (AIS) at Balsane in Maharashtra’s Dhule district.The high-voltage substation will form a key part of the planned intra-state transmission infrastructure and is expected to improve power transmission capacity and connectivity across the region.

Project to Include Around 156 Km of Transmission Lines
The Balsane project will include multiple high-voltage transmission lines connecting the new substation with key points in Maharashtra’s transmission network.
The planned transmission infrastructure includes:
- A 400 kV double-circuit line of approximately 106 km from the 765 kV AIS Balsane to the proposed 400 kV Malegaon substation.
- A 220 kV double-circuit line of around 50 km from the 765 kV AIS Balsane to the 220 kV Shivajinagar and 220 kV Vikharan substations.
- Other associated transmission works required for the project.
Together, the two specified transmission lines cover approximately 156 km.
RECPDCL Hands Over SPV to Resonia Limited
The SPV was formally handed over by Anil Kumar Perala, Deputy General Manager (Engineering), RECPDCL, to Tushar Chhabra, Head – Business Acquisition, Resonia Limited.
Officials from Resonia Limited, Maharashtra State Transmission Utility (Maharashtra STU) and RECPDCL were also present during the handover ceremony. With the SPV handover, Resonia Limited will take forward the development of the transmission project under the BOOT framework.
Project to Strengthen Maharashtra’s Power Transmission Network
The Balsane Power Transmission Project is expected to strengthen Maharashtra’s intra-state transmission infrastructure by adding high-voltage transmission capacity and improving connectivity between important substations.
The project will support the expansion of the state’s transmission network through the addition of a 765/400/220 kV substation and associated 400 kV and 220 kV transmission lines. The implementation schedule for the project is 24 months, according to RECPDCL.
