SAIL Q1 FY27 Results: Net Profit Jumps 138% to ₹1,636 Crore, EBITDA Rises 49% on Strong Performance

New Delhi: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE), has reported a strong financial performance for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 (Q1 FY27).

The company’s standalone net profit increased by 138.65% year-on-year to ₹1,636 crore, compared with ₹685.48 crore in Q1 FY26.

On a consolidated basis, SAIL reported a net profit of ₹1,644.05 crore, registering a growth of around 121% compared with ₹744.58 crore in the same period last year.

The improvement was supported by higher profitability, better cost management, and operational efficiency despite a challenging global steel environment.

    • Growth of 49% year-on-year
  • Profit Before Tax (after exceptional items): ₹2,158.79 crore
    • Q1 FY26: ₹889.76 crore
    • Growth: 143%
  • Basic EPS: ₹3.96

The company’s improved margins reflected stronger operational efficiency and better cost management.

IISCO Steel Plant

  • Revenue: ₹2,771.02 crore

Durgapur Steel Plant

  • Revenue: ₹2,731.39 crore

Operational Performance: Steel Production Moderates Due to Planned Maintenance

During Q1 FY27, SAIL’s crude steel production stood at 4.76 million tonnes, compared with 4.85 million tonnes in the same quarter last year.

Sales volume stood at 4.16 million tonnes, compared with 4.55 million tonnes in Q1 FY26.

The company said production and sales volumes were impacted due to scheduled repairs and maintenance activities undertaken during the quarter amid global supply chain challenges.

SAIL Improves Financial Strength and Key Ratios

The company continued to strengthen its balance sheet during the quarter.

Board Decisions and Important Disclosures

SAIL’s Board approved the Q1 FY27 financial results based on the recommendation of the Audit Committee.

Key Updates:

  • The company recorded an exceptional item of ₹144.01 crore towards Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) compensation.
  • An incremental impact of ₹92.38 crore was recognised due to new labour codes during Q1 FY27.
  • The cumulative impact of labour codes stood at ₹229.31 crore.
  • SAIL reported no outstanding defaults.
  • Total financial indebtedness stood at ₹21,728.56 crore.
  • The company had no listed non-convertible debt securities as of June 30, 2026.

SAIL Board Compliance Update

SAIL disclosed that it currently has only one Independent Director on its Board, which is not in compliance with applicable requirements under SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR) Regulations.

Management View: SAIL Confident of Sustained Growth

SAIL Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Ashok Kumar Panda said the domestic steel industry has shown resilience despite global uncertainties.

He highlighted that improved operational efficiency, cost management, and focused marketing strategies helped the company deliver strong profitability in Q1 FY27.

SAIL remains focused on strengthening manufacturing capabilities and benefiting from sustained domestic steel demand.
