Sharma assumed charge as Head of Project at NTPC Dadri on October 5, 2026. In his new role, he brings decades of experience in power generation, plant operations, maintenance and project management.
During his career, he has worked across several important NTPC establishments, including Vindhyachal, Barauni and Simhadri. His professional journey has involved responsibilities in technical operations, project leadership and corporate management.
His experience across different functions has provided him with a broad understanding of power-station operations and the organisational requirements of a major power utility.

Educational Qualifications and Technical Background
Sharma holds a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in Electronics Engineering from Ravi Shankar University, Raipur, which he completed in 1988.
He subsequently pursued an M.Tech. in Management and Systems from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, completing the programme with academic distinction.
His combination of engineering education and management expertise has supported his career progression across technical, operational and leadership roles at NTPC.
Sameer Sharma’s 38-Year Career at NTPC
Sharma joined NTPC on August 24, 1988, as an Executive Trainee. Over more than 38 years with the organisation, he has progressed through various levels of responsibility, eventually becoming an Executive Director.
He began his career in the Control and Instrumentation (C&I) function before expanding his professional experience into several other areas, including:
- Maintenance: Experience in maintaining power-generation equipment and supporting plant reliability.
- Operations and Maintenance (O&M): Exposure to power-station operations and maintenance activities.
- Project Leadership: Responsibilities involving the management and oversight of major power projects.
- Corporate Functions: Experience in organisational and management-related responsibilities.
- Information Technology (IT): Leadership experience in NTPC’s corporate IT function.
