NTPC Bongaigaon Signs MoA for ₹5 Crore CSR Project to Develop Model School in Assam

Initiative will add 13 classrooms, five laboratories, a digital classroom and library at Basantala Bisweswar Changakoti Memorial Shankardev Shishu Vidya Niketan.

Assam: NTPC Bongaigaon has launched a ₹5 crore Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to develop the Basantala Bisweswar Changakoti Memorial Shankardev Shishu Vidya Niketan as a Model School in Assam.

The project will focus on improving classroom infrastructure, practical learning facilities and access to digital educational resources. The initiative aims to create a safer and better-equipped learning environment for children from surrounding communities.

An Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the project was signed between NTPC Bongaigaon and Shishu Shiksha Samiti, Assam.

The agreement was signed by Amit Kumar Asthana, Head of HR, NTPC Bongaigaon, and Jagannath Rajbonshi, General Secretary, Shishu Shiksha Samiti, Assam, on behalf of their respective organisations.

The signing ceremony was attended by:

  • Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon
  • Bhushan Goswami, CSR and Grant Coordinator, Shishu Shiksha Samiti, Assam
  • Sushil Kumar, AGM (Civil)
  • Roshan Dungdung, AGM (HR)
  • Ms. Debaleena Das, DGM (HR)
  • Ms. Smriti Das, Executive (CSR), NTPC Bongaigaon
  • Rounak Kundu, Engineer (CCD-Township)

₹5 Crore Project to Strengthen School Infrastructure

The proposed Model School project will expand the institution’s existing infrastructure through the construction of a ground floor and an Assam-type first floor.

The combined built-up area will be approximately 1,926 square metres.

The planned facilities include:

  • 13 classrooms
  • 5 laboratory rooms
  • 1 dedicated digital classroom
  • 1 library
  • Staff common room
  • Administrative spaces
  • Separate sanitation facilities for boys and girls

The additional infrastructure is expected to increase the school’s capacity and provide students with improved facilities for academic and extracurricular activities.

Focus on Practical and Digital Learning

The project will place emphasis on creating facilities that support practical and technology-enabled learning.

The new laboratories will provide students with greater opportunities to learn through practical activities, while the dedicated digital classroom will improve access to digital educational resources.

The library will also provide students with additional learning material and opportunities to explore subjects beyond their regular textbooks.

NTPC Bongaigaon Highlights Education-Focused CSR Initiative

Speaking on the occasion, Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, said the Model School project is part of NTPC’s strategic CSR initiatives in Assam.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening educational infrastructure and expanding access to quality learning opportunities for children.

The project is also intended to support academic, cultural and co-curricular activities while creating durable educational infrastructure for the local community.

Project to Be Implemented Over 36 Months

The Model School project is planned for implementation over a period of 36 months.

Shishu Shiksha Samiti, Assam, will undertake the implementation of the project, while NTPC will monitor its progress through reports and site visits.

The project particularly seeks to improve access to quality learning facilities for children from economically weaker communities.

Shishu Shiksha Samiti to Implement the Project

Shishu Shiksha Samiti, Assam is a registered educational society affiliated with Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sansthan.

Headquartered in Guwahati, the organisation operates a network of Sankardev Shishu Vidya Niketan schools across Assam and brings experience in school education to the project.

The organisation will be responsible for implementing the Model School development initiative in coordination with NTPC Bongaigaon.

Project Aligns With Sustainable Development Goal 4

The initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which focuses on Quality Education.

Through the project, NTPC Bongaigaon aims to support the infrastructure and facilities required by students and teachers for meaningful learning. The initiative also reflects NTPC’s focus on education as an important area of its CSR activities.
