New Delhi: Surya Narayan Panigrahi has taken charge as Executive Director (HR) of NTPC Limited, following a career spanning more than 36 years with the power utility.
Before his elevation, Panigrahi served as Executive Director (HR)-cum-Regional Head of HR for NTPC’s Northern and Southern regions. He was elevated to the position of Executive Director (HR) with effect from June 8, 2026.
In his new role, he will oversee NTPC’s human resources functions and contribute to the company’s focus on organisational transformation, capability building and long-term growth.
Surya Narayan Panigrahi’s 36-Year Career at NTPC
Panigrahi has handled a wide range of HR and organisational responsibilities during his career at NTPC, including:

- Industrial relations

His extensive experience includes assignments across several major NTPC establishments and regional offices.

During his career, Panigrahi has served at several important NTPC locations, including:
- Talcher Kaniha, Odisha
- Vindhyachal, Madhya Pradesh
- APCPL Jhajjar, Haryana
- Tanda, Uttar Pradesh
- NTPC Corporate Centre, New Delhi
- Southern Regional Headquarters, Hyderabad
- Northern Regional Headquarters, Lucknow
He later headed HR at Tanda Super Thermal Power Station before taking up leadership responsibilities for HR functions in NTPC’s Southern and Northern regions.
In December 2025, he assumed additional responsibility as Regional Head of HR for the Northern Region while continuing his responsibilities for the Southern Region.
Role in NTPC’s HR Digital Transformation
During his tenure at NTPC’s Corporate Centre, Panigrahi played an important role in implementing PeopleSoft HRMS and SAP ERP systems.
These initiatives supported the digital transformation of NTPC’s HR processes and helped strengthen technology-enabled HR management across the organisation.
He also contributed to the development of integrated security systems across NTPC.

As Executive Director (HR), he will oversee NTPC’s HR functions and support the company’s priorities related to people strategy, organisational transformation, capability building and sustainable growth.
