Bhopal: Former Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer Sanjay Gupta (IAS: 2007: MP) has been appointed as a Member of the Madhya Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA).
Gupta, who entered the IAS through the Non-State Civil Services (Non-SCS) stream, retired from active administrative service after a career spanning nearly two decades. His last recorded assignment was as Commissioner, Ujjain Division, where he also held additional responsibilities as Director, Religious Trusts & Endowments and Director, Chief Minister Teerth Darshan Yojana.
His appointment to RERA brings an experienced former administrator into the state’s real estate regulatory framework.
Who Is Sanjay Gupta?
Sanjay Gupta is a 2007-batch retired IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre. He was born on July 4, 1965, and entered the IAS through the Non-SCS route.
He holds a B.E. in Civil Engineering and an M.B.A., an educational background that combines technical expertise with management training.
During his administrative career, Gupta handled responsibilities across district and divisional administration as well as specialised departments of the Madhya Pradesh government.

Sanjay Gupta’s Administrative Career
Gupta served in several positions during his career in the Madhya Pradesh government.
Among his important assignments was his tenure as District Magistrate and Collector of Harda, where he was responsible for district administration, development and coordination of various government departments.
He subsequently held senior responsibilities at the divisional level and served as Commissioner, Ujjain Division.
As Divisional Commissioner, Gupta was responsible for overseeing administration across the districts falling under the Ujjain division and coordinating implementation of state government policies and programmes.

Alongside the divisional commissioner assignment, he was given additional charge of:

The additional responsibilities gave him an administrative role in matters concerning religious trusts and endowments as well as the implementation of the state’s pilgrimage-related welfare scheme.
From IAS to RERA
After superannuating from the IAS, Gupta has now taken up a new role in the regulatory sector with his appointment as Member, Madhya Pradesh RERA.
The Real Estate Regulatory Authority plays an important role in regulating the real estate sector, protecting the interests of homebuyers and ensuring greater transparency and accountability in real estate projects.
As a RERA Member, Gupta’s administrative experience is expected to be relevant to the authority’s work involving regulatory decisions, complaints and disputes concerning real estate projects and developers.
