New Delhi: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, today presented the SCOPE Eminence Awards for 2022–23, recognizing the exceptional contributions of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) to the nation’s development across diverse sectors. The award ceremony was held in the national capital and organized by the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE).

Public Sector Enterprises: Engines of Inclusive Growth

In her address, President Murmu praised CPSEs for being powerful vehicles of economic development and social inclusion since India’s independence. She acknowledged their contributions in:

  • Industrialisation
  • Infrastructure development
  • Balanced regional growth
  • Social upliftment

Over the decades, she noted, public sector enterprises have not only evolved with changing times but have also continued to align with national priorities and people-centric goals.

Celebrating Holistic Excellence

President Murmu highlighted that the SCOPE Eminence Awards celebrate performance not just economically, but across social, environmental, ethical, and technological dimensions.

A good enterprise performs well on all fronts—social, economic, environmental, technological, and ethical. These awards represent a holistic approach to progress and development,” she said.

She commended SCOPE for recognizing excellence in corporate governance, CSR, innovation, and sustainable development.

Public Sector at the Forefront of Nation Building

Referring to CPSEs as “catalysts of growth and pillars of prosperity”, President Murmu underlined their critical role in national campaigns like:

  • Aatmanirbhar Bharat
  • Make in India

She cited Operation Sindoor as an example, where the indigenous Akashteer Air Defence Control and Reporting System showcased India’s growing self-reliance in defence technology — a feat in which public sector enterprises played a key role.

CPSEs Vital to India’s Vision for 2047

President Murmu emphasized that CPSEs will be instrumental in achieving India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, the centenary of independence.

“It is expected from CPSEs that their decisions will be dedicated to nation-building, actions based on ethics, and thinking inspired by sensitivity and social service,” she stated.

She noted that these enterprises have also set benchmarks in governance, transparency, and inclusive development.
