New Delhi: In a major move to accelerate Delhi’s clean energy transition, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to install rooftop solar systems on 244 government and public buildings across the national capital.
MoU Signing and Project Goals
The MoU was signed by Mr. Manas Ranjan Mishra, Deputy General Manager & Head (Solar), SECI, and Er. Deepak Sachdeva, Chief Engineer (Electrical), NDMC, in the presence of Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chairman, NDMC.
Under the agreement, SECI will support planning, design, and implementation of rooftop solar systems across NDMC-owned buildings. The initiative aims to reduce dependence on conventional power, lower electricity costs, and cut carbon emissions, contributing to Delhi’s renewable energy capacity. Officials highlighted that the project would also improve energy efficiency in public infrastructure and strengthen India’s sustainability and climate commitments.
Impact on Delhi’s Renewable Energy Footprint
Once completed, the rooftop solar installations are expected to make a significant contribution to clean power generation within the NDMC area. The project aligns with the Government of India’s push for large-scale adoption of rooftop solar systems in urban areas, promoting energy self-reliance, sustainable urban development, and reduced environmental impact.
The partnership also aims to serve as a replicable model for other municipal bodies across the country, demonstrating how public institutions can integrate renewable energy solutions into urban infrastructure.
