A senior official from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) office, Vishal Desai Bapusaheb (2010-batch IA&AS officer), was suspended on November 19, 2024, a day before CAG Girish Chandra Murmu’s tenure ended. The suspension followed serious allegations of corruption and sexual misconduct brought forward by a group of vigilant employees within the C&AG office.
The complaint, lodged in August 2024, accused Bapusaheb of sexual misconduct during an audit assignment in Mauritius and in the recruitment of young professionals (YPs). Additionally, he was alleged to have been involved in bribery related to recruitment under the sports quota and the filling of vacancies at the CAG Headquarters over several years.
In September 2024, despite the ongoing investigation, Bapusaheb was assigned a foreign posting as Director at the Principal Director of Audit in London. However, after the investigation progressed, the C&AG issued an order recalling him to India in October 2024, citing “administrative reasons,” and posted him as Senior Deputy Accountant General in Jaipur starting November 10, 2024. Ultimately, he was suspended on November 19, just one day before the end of CAG Murmu’s tenure.
