New Delhi: In a key development for mid-career Indian Economic Service (IES) officers, the Government of India has granted Non-Functional Upgradation (NFU) to the Senior Administrative Grade (SAG) to seven officers from the 2007 batch.
This move aligns with the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) guidelines that enable officers to move into higher grades based on seniority and batch parity, even in the absence of promotional vacancies.
Officers Granted SAG NFU:
- Ms. Chandrani Gupta
- Ms. Bhumika Verma
- Ms. Swayamprava Pani
- Mr. Prasanth C
- Mr. Mukesh Kumar
- Ms. Urmila
- Mr. Praveen Kumar
The elevation to the Senior Administrative Grade positions these officers for higher responsibilities in economic policy planning, analytics, fiscal studies, and strategic governance roles across various ministries and departments.
Understanding NFU in Civil Services
Non-Functional Upgradation (NFU) is a mechanism that ensures parity across different central services with their counterparts in Group ‘A’ services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). Once an officer from a particular batch in IAS is promoted to a higher grade, officers of the same batch in other services become eligible for upgradation after a fixed time lag, even if they are not promoted through the regular process.
