PESB Selects S G Venkatesh as Director (Technical) of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited

New Delhi: In a key leadership development in India’s petroleum sector, the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has selected Mr. S G Venkatesh for the post of Director (Technical) at Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL), a subsidiary of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).

The selection was finalized after evaluating 11 applicants for the position, reflecting the competitive and merit-based approach of PESB in identifying top leadership for public sector undertakings.

Bringing Petrochemical Expertise to CPCL

Mr. Venkatesh currently holds the position of Executive Director (Petrochemicals) at Indian Oil Corporation Limited, headquartered in New Delhi. With a career spanning multiple strategic roles within IOCL, his expertise lies in petrochemical operations, technology management, and downstream project execution.

His selection as Director (Technical) is expected to bring valuable technical leadership and operational insight to CPCL as the company continues to expand and modernize its refining capabilities.

Strategic Appointment Amid Industry Transition

The appointment of a seasoned technocrat like Mr. Venkatesh comes at a time when India’s refining sector is undergoing major transformations—from capacity expansion to the adoption of cleaner, more efficient technologies. CPCL plays a key role in IOCL’s southern operations, and having strong technical leadership is vital for steering complex projects and enhancing operational efficiency.

The final appointment is subject to necessary clearances and approvals from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) is a subsidiary of Indian Oil Corporation Limited, and one of the leading public sector oil refining companies in India. Originally incorporated in 1965 as Madras Refineries Limited (MRL), CPCL operates key refining facilities in Manali (Chennai) and Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu.

CPCL is primarily engaged in refining crude oil into various value-added petroleum products including LPG, diesel, kerosene, aviation turbine fuel, and petrochemical feedstocks. The company plays a pivotal role in catering to the energy demands of Southern India and contributes significantly to India’s energy security.
