Supreme Court Panel Seeks Public Suggestions on Aravalli Hills Protection and Environmental Issues

High-Powered Committee invites inputs from states, environmentalists, communities, mining stakeholders and other concerned groups before submitting report to Supreme Court

New Delhi: The High-Powered Committee (HPC) constituted by the Supreme Court of India has invited suggestions, representations, and inputs from the public and various stakeholders on matters related to the Aravalli Hills and Ranges.

The committee was formed through the Supreme Court’s order dated May 25, 2026, in Suo Motu Writ Petition (Civil) No. 10 of 2025 to examine issues concerning the Aravalli ecosystem and related matters.

The HPC has been directed to submit a comprehensive report to the Supreme Court by August 31, 2026.

Stakeholders Invited to Submit Suggestions and Representations

The High-Powered Committee has invited responses from a wide range of stakeholders connected with the Aravalli region.

The submissions are open to:

  • Residents and communities of affected areas
  • Environmentalists and conservationists
  • Non-profit organizations
  • Mining lease holders
  • Project developers and proponents
  • Villagers and farmers
  • Mine workers
  • Local communities dependent on the Aravalli ecosystem
  • Individuals and organizations having a legitimate interest in the matter

The committee aims to collect diverse views to understand ecological, environmental, social, and livelihood-related concerns associated with the Aravalli Hills and Ranges.

Public Inputs to Support Supreme Court’s Comprehensive Review

The HPC has requested stakeholders to provide their suggestions along with documentary evidence or other verifiable supporting materials wherever possible.

The committee will examine the submissions while preparing its detailed report for consideration by the Supreme Court.

The initiative aims to ensure that opinions from different sections of society are considered while reviewing matters related to the protection and management of the Aravalli ecosystem.

Responses Accepted Within 21 Days Through Email and Google Form

Interested stakeholders can submit their representations and suggestions within 21 days from the date of publication of the notice.

Aravalli Hills Review Covers Multiple States and Environmental Concerns

The HPC’s consultation process covers stakeholders from states and regions connected with the Aravalli mountain range, including:

  • National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi
  • Rajasthan
  • Haryana
  • Gujarat
  • Other concerned states

The Aravalli Hills are considered one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world and play an important role in biodiversity conservation, groundwater recharge, climate regulation, and maintaining ecological balance in northwestern India.

Committee Aims to Address Environmental and Livelihood Concerns

The Supreme Court-appointed committee will examine issues related to the Aravalli Hills while considering both environmental protection and the concerns of communities whose livelihoods are linked to the region.

The consultation process is expected to help the HPC understand challenges related to:

  • Forest and biodiversity conservation
  • Sustainable development
  • Mining activities
  • Local livelihoods
  • Ecosystem protection

The final report will be submitted to the Supreme Court before the deadline of August 31, 2026.
