New Delhi: The Supreme Court has temporarily halted a Karnataka High Court order that directed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate alleged irregularities in Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) recruitment cases.
The decision came from the Supreme Court after the Karnataka government raised objections regarding the composition of the SIT. The matter will now continue before the apex court.

The High Court directed the State government to create an SIT headed by senior IPS officer Alok Kumar. The SIT was expected to conduct a de novo investigation, meaning a completely fresh probe from the beginning.
The order aimed to examine allegations related to recruitment conducted by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), the constitutional body responsible for recruiting candidates for government services in Karnataka.
Supreme Court Stays The KPSC Recruitment SIT Probe
A Division Bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justice Manoj Misra and Justice Vijay Bishnoi heard the matter.
The Bench decided to stay the Karnataka High Court’s direction for the constitution of the SIT. This means the SIT investigation ordered by the High Court will not proceed for now until further orders from the Supreme Court.
Karnataka Government Allowed To Raise Objections
During the hearing, the Supreme Court permitted the Karnataka government to submit its objections regarding the members of the proposed SIT. The Court directed the State government to provide its objections in a sealed cover. The Bench also allowed the government to suggest alternative names for the SIT if required.
Why Did The State Object
According to submissions made before the Supreme Court, the Karnataka government had concerns regarding the individuals selected to be part of the SIT.
The Court decided that these concerns should be examined before allowing the probe to move forward. As a result, the apex court granted interim relief and paused the implementation of the High Court’s order.
