New Delhi: Advisor to the Prime Minister Tarun Kapoor chaired a review meeting of Coal India Limited (CIL) at the company’s corporate office in Kolkata, focusing on coal production and supply performance, diversification initiatives and measures to meet the country’s energy requirements.
During the meeting, Kapoor reviewed measures being undertaken to augment coal supplies to thermal power plants and assessed the progress of various coal gasification initiatives.
Coal India Produces Over 310 MT of Coal
Coal India has produced more than 310 million tonnes (MT) of coal so far in the current fiscal.
The review meeting assessed the company’s production performance along with measures being undertaken to maintain adequate coal availability for key sectors, particularly the power sector.
Key coal production and supply figures include:
- Coal production: More than 310 MT
- Total coal supplies: Over 371 MT
- Supply to power sector: More than 291 MT

Over 371 MT Coal Supplied So Far
Coal India has supplied over 371 MT of coal during the current fiscal so far.
Of the total supplies, more than 291 MT has been supplied to the power sector, highlighting the company’s focus on maintaining coal availability for thermal power plants.
During the review, measures to further augment coal supplies to thermal power plants were discussed.
Tarun Kapoor Reviews Coal Gasification Initiatives
The meeting also reviewed the progress of coal gasification initiatives being undertaken by Coal India.
Coal gasification is part of the company’s broader diversification efforts and is aimed at expanding the utilisation of coal through alternative processes and supporting the development of value-added coal-based products.
The review covered the progress of these initiatives along with other diversification measures being pursued by the company.
