New Delhi: THDC India Limited (THDCIL) has achieved a major project milestone at its 444 MW Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project (VPHEP) in Uttarakhand with the successful lowering of the Unit-1 hydrogenerator rotor.
The approximately 210-tonne rotor, one of the critical components of the hydrogenerator, was fully assembled at the project site before being carefully lowered into position. The development marks an important step towards the completion and commissioning of Unit-1.
210-Tonne Hydrogenerator Rotor Lowered at VPHEP
The successful lowering of the Unit-1 rotor represents a significant achievement in the construction and installation work at VPHEP.

Next Steps for Unit-1 Generator Assembly
Following the successful lowering of the rotor, THDCIL will undertake the next stages of generator assembly and installation.
The upcoming activities include:
- Assembly of the top shaft
- Assembly of the upper bracket
- Alignment of the generator components
- Centering
- Levelling
- Final box-up of the generator
These activities will take the Unit-1 generator installation closer to completion and support the subsequent commissioning process.
THDCIL Management Hails Project Team
Sipan Kumar Garg, Managing Director, THDCIL, described the successful lowering of the Unit-1 rotor as a landmark achievement for the Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project.
He appreciated the commitment, technical expertise and coordinated efforts of the project team and associated agencies. He also expressed confidence that the project would maintain its momentum towards successful commissioning.
Kumar Sharad, Executive Director (Projects), and Ajay Verma, Executive Director (VPHEP), congratulated the team and said that the achievement marks an important step towards the completion and commissioning of Unit-1.

Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Project Progresses Towards Commissioning
The 444 MW Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project is a key hydropower project being developed by THDCIL in Uttarakhand.
The latest rotor installation milestone strengthens progress towards the completion of Unit-1 and the eventual commissioning of the project. The project comprises four generating units of 111 MW each, with a total installed capacity of 444 MW.
