Rishikesh: THDC India Limited (THDCIL) has appointed Ajay Verma as Executive Director (Projects). He assumed charge on October 6, 2026, and will provide leadership and strategic oversight to the company’s hydro-thermal project portfolio, covering both ongoing and under-construction projects as well as commissioned assets.
With more than 38 years of post-graduation experience in civil engineering and infrastructure project management, Verma brings extensive expertise in project execution, construction, contracts, planning, quality control and commissioning to his new role.
Ajay Verma Takes Charge as Executive Director (Projects)
In his new position, Ajay Verma will oversee THDCIL’s hydro-thermal project portfolio and provide strategic direction for project execution and management.
His responsibilities will cover:
- Ongoing and under-construction projects
- Commissioned project assets
- Project execution and construction management
- Strategic coordination across projects
- Timely project delivery and operational excellence
His appointment is expected to strengthen coordination and focused oversight across THDCIL’s project portfolio and support the company’s long-term growth objectives.

Previous Role at Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project
Before taking charge as Executive Director (Projects), Verma was serving as Executive Director and Head of Project (HOP) of the 444 MW Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project (VPHEP) since 2023.
During his tenure at VPHEP, the project achieved significant progress and several critical milestones under his leadership.
He handled complex challenges related to:
- Technical aspects of project execution
- Geological conditions
- Contractual matters
- Social challenges
- Construction and project management in the Himalayan region
His decision-making and project management experience contributed to the advancement of the major hydropower project.
Ajay Verma’s Education and Professional Experience
Ajay Verma graduated in Civil Engineering from M.S. Ramaiah College, Bengaluru, in 1988. He subsequently strengthened his professional qualifications through specialised programmes in construction and project management.
His academic qualifications include:
- Post Graduate Diploma in Construction Management from Delhi Productivity Council, New Delhi, in 1998
- Post Graduate Certificate in Project Management from IIM Indore in 2015
Verma has more than 38 years of post-graduation experience, covering several critical areas of infrastructure and power project development.
More Than Three Decades of Experience with THDCIL
Ajay Verma joined THDC India Limited on July 30, 1990, as an Engineer (Trainee). Since then, he has built a career spanning more than three decades across several important functions within the organisation.
During his long association with THDCIL, he has worked in areas including:
- Rehabilitation
- Construction
- Corporate Contracts
- Vigilance
- Tehri Dam spillway works
- Planning and Quality Control of Koteshwar Dam
His diverse experience has given him exposure to different stages of large infrastructure and power projects.
Leadership Across Major Power Projects
Verma has held several important project and functional responsibilities during his career at THDCIL.
As Additional General Manager, he successfully led the commissioning of the 3×8 MW Dhukwan Small Hydro Electric Project, helping ensure its timely completion.
He later served at the 1320 MW Khurja Super Thermal Power Project (KSTPP), where he headed Contracts Management and the Ash Dyke Package. In this role, he contributed to the execution of key components of the major thermal power project.
His experience across hydro and thermal projects has provided him with a broad understanding of power-sector project development and execution.

With experience spanning project execution, construction management, contracts, planning, quality control and commissioning, Ajay Verma brings a comprehensive understanding of large infrastructure projects to his new assignment.
