A number of senior administrative and police officers retired from service in Uttar Pradesh on July 31, with two Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, one Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and 16 Provincial Police Service (PPS) officers completing their tenure.

Two IAS Officers Retire

Among the retiring IAS officers are Akhilesh Singh of the 2008 batch and Ghanshyam Singh of the 2014 batch.

Akhilesh Singh retired while serving as Commissioner of the Basti Division, while Ghanshyam Singh was serving as Special Secretary in the Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department.

Farewell to Basti Commissioner

A farewell ceremony was organised in Basti to honour Akhilesh Singh, attended by senior district officials and his family.

During his career, Singh served as District Magistrate of Ambedkar Nagar, Shamli and Saharanpur.

His tenure in Saharanpur was particularly notable, where he remained District Magistrate for more than three years, reportedly breaking a 45-year record for the longest tenure in the district.

Promoted shortly before his retirement, he had taken charge as Commissioner of Basti around seven months earlier. Until a successor is appointed, he has handed over charge to Basti District Magistrate Kritika Jyotsna.

IPS Officer Vidyashankar Mishra Retires

IPS officer Vidyashankar Mishra also retired on July 31.

A 2015-batch IPS officer promoted from the Provincial Police Service (PPS), he was serving as Commandant of the 11th Battalion of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) in Sitapur at the time of his retirement.

Sixteen PPS Officers Also Superannuate

Along with the senior IAS and IPS officers, 16 PPS officers also retired from service.

The retiring officers include Deputy Superintendents of Police Satish Chandra Pandey, Jagveer Singh Chauhan, Gavendra Pal Gautam, Ramesh Kumar Tiwari, Ranjeet Yadav, Sheetla Prasad Pandey, Kamlesh Kumar Singh, Shivaji Singh, Umesh Chandra Bhatt, Pradeep Kumar Tripathi, Bhagwan Das, Pradeep Kumar Paliwal, Ravindra Pratap Singh, Ravindra Kumar Sharma, Devendra Nath Upadhyay and Vinay Kumar.

The retirements mark a significant transition in Uttar Pradesh’s administrative and police setup, with the state government expected to fill several vacant posts in the coming weeks.
