Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved ₹261.91 crore for the modernisation and expansion of the Ganga Cooperative Sugar Mill, Morna, in Muzaffarnagar district. The decision is expected to significantly boost sugarcane crushing capacity, ensure timely payments to farmers, and generate local employment.

Major Boost for Western Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Farmers

Welcoming the decision, Bharatiya Kisan Union (Non-Political) National Spokesperson Dharmendra Malik met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and expressed gratitude for the approval. He described the move as a historic step for millions of sugarcane farmers in western Uttar Pradesh and a milestone for the state’s sugar industry.

The approval was granted by the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by the Chief Minister, with a focus on enhancing farmers’ income and strengthening the cooperative sugar sector.

Crushing Capacity to Double in Phases

As part of the expansion plan, the Morna-based Ganga Cooperative Sugar Mill’s crushing capacity will be increased in phases:

  • From 2,500 TCD to 3,500 TCD in the first phase
  • Further expansion to 5,000 TCD in the future

The ₹261.91 crore investment will improve production efficiency, operational performance, and overall capacity of the sugar mill.

Timely Cane Payments and Employment Generation

The modernisation will accelerate the crushing process, enabling timely payment to sugarcane farmers. The expansion is also expected to create new local employment opportunities, boosting economic activity in the Morna region and surrounding areas.

Focus on Modern and Eco-Friendly Technology

Dharmendra Malik said the Chief Minister’s visionary leadership will promote the adoption of modern and environmentally friendly technologies at the sugar mill. This will help make the sugar industry more efficient, sustainable, and farmer-centric.

Strengthening Farmer Confidence

He further noted that the state government’s initiatives—such as timely cane price payments, sugar mill modernisation, expansion of irrigation facilities, rural infrastructure development, and farmer-friendly schemes—have strengthened farmers’ confidence in the government.

According to Malik, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, Uttar Pradesh’s sugarcane sector is set to witness sustained growth in the coming years.
