Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has recorded significant achievements in electricity generation, distribution, and consumer relief under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The state is now known for offering some of the lowest electricity tariffs in the country while ensuring one of the most reliable and highest-quality power supplies nationwide.
The government has also taken key steps to promote electric vehicles (EVs) and expand the use of green energy across the state.
20% Tariff Discount for Solar Hours to Boost EV Charging
To encourage the use of clean energy and improve EV charging infrastructure, the Uttar Pradesh government has introduced a 20% tariff discount during designated solar hours.
According to the policy, the discount will apply between 9 AM and 4 PM, when solar energy is abundantly available.
The initiative aims to:
- Promote public EV charging infrastructure
- Encourage maximum use of affordable solar energy
- Support environmental conservation through clean energy adoption
Energy Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma announced the decision during a press conference, stating that it will significantly boost the use of green and sustainable power in the state.
No Electricity Tariff Hike for Seven Consecutive Years
The government has maintained a stable electricity pricing policy, ensuring that tariffs remain unchanged for all consumer categories for the seventh consecutive year.
This move reflects the state’s commitment to:
- Providing affordable electricity to all citizens
- Supporting farmers, domestic users, and industries
- Ensuring financial relief for economically weaker sections
Officials highlighted that Uttar Pradesh continues to improve its power infrastructure while keeping electricity rates among the lowest in India.
Record Power Demand Met Successfully
Uttar Pradesh has successfully met a record electricity demand of 32,673 megawatts, marking the highest ever power consumption handled by the state.
This achievement sets a new national benchmark and reflects the state’s strengthened power distribution system and improved infrastructure capacity.
Expansion of Solar and Thermal Power Capacity
The state has significantly expanded its energy generation capacity, especially in the renewable sector.
Key developments include:
- Over 4,000 MW capacity developed through solar parks
- Around 2,500 MW under development through the PM Surya Ghar scheme
- Ongoing thermal power projects in Mirzapur, Meja, and other regions
- Efficiency improvements in existing thermal plants
Officials noted that earlier thermal plants operated at around 65% plant load factor, but efficiency has now improved to nearly 85%.
Clean Energy Push and EV Infrastructure Development
The state government is actively promoting electric mobility and renewable energy adoption. The introduction of solar-hour tariff incentives is expected to accelerate EV charging infrastructure across Uttar Pradesh.
These initiatives are aligned with the broader goal of reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable development.
Leadership and Vision Behind Energy Reforms
Energy Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma credited the achievements to the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
He said Uttar Pradesh is steadily moving toward energy self-reliance and is emerging as a model state in the power sector for the entire country.
Uttar Pradesh’s advancements in electricity supply, renewable energy expansion, and EV-friendly policies highlight a major transformation in the state’s power sector. With stable tariffs, record demand handling, and strong investment in solar energy, the state continues to strengthen its position as a leader in India’s energy transition.
