Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a committee to develop a dedicated rental housing model for senior citizens, marking a move towards creating safer, affordable and purpose-built housing options for the state’s ageing population.
The proposed model will focus on the housing, healthcare and safety needs of elderly residents while exploring the development of organised rental communities across Uttar Pradesh. The initiative aims to offer an alternative to conventional old-age homes by enabling senior citizens to live independently while accessing essential support services.
Panel to Frame Comprehensive Senior Housing Model
The committee will prepare a comprehensive framework for senior citizen rental housing and recommend measures that can support its development across the state.
The proposed framework will examine several aspects of senior-friendly housing, including:
- Barrier-free and accessible housing design
- Healthcare and emergency support
- Security and safety arrangements
