Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Development Department has taken a major step toward enhancing employability and modern skills among students by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Wadhwani Foundation’s Skills Development Network (SDN).

The initiative aims to equip students of cooperative sugarcane committee-run educational institutions with industry-relevant skills, improving their chances of employment, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance.

Skill Development Programme for 15,000+ Students

Under this initiative, around 15,440 students studying in nine inter colleges and degree colleges run by cooperative sugarcane committees will benefit.

In the first phase, approximately 3,500 students will undergo 75–90 hours of structured skill training, designed to align with current industry requirements.

The programme will focus on preparing students for real-world job markets through structured and practical learning modules.

  • Digital literacy

For final-year students, a 120-unit employability skills programme will also be introduced to enhance job readiness.

Entrepreneurship and Startup Training Included

A key highlight of the initiative is the Entrepreneurial Mindset Programme, which aims to encourage students to become job creators instead of just job seekers.

Students will be trained in:

  • Innovation and startup development
  • Business management
  • Risk management
  • Opportunity identification
  • Self-employment pathways

This is expected to promote entrepreneurship among rural and semi-urban youth.

AI-Based Digital Learning Platform to Support Education

Wadhwani Foundation will provide an AI-powered Learning Management System (LMS) for both students and teachers.

The platform will offer:

  • Digital learning content
  • Video lectures
  • Interactive study modules
  • Online assessments

This will enable hybrid and flexible learning while improving the quality of education delivery.

Teachers will also receive specialized training to ensure effective implementation of the programme.

Special Focus on Women Empowerment

The programme will give special emphasis to girl students under the Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao initiative, helping them gain professional and technical skills for better career opportunities and self-reliance.

Industry Collaboration and Placement Support

The Wadhwani Foundation will work with local and national industries to provide:

  • Placement assistance
  • Career counselling
  • Skill-based job opportunities
  • Industry exposure sessions

Regular monitoring and evaluation of student progress and employment outcomes will also be conducted.

Expert Workshops and Career Guidance Sessions

Students will benefit from:

  • National and international expert masterclasses
  • Online and offline workshops
  • Career counselling sessions
  • Motivational and industry awareness programmes

These sessions will help students stay updated with evolving job market demands.

Step Towards Job-Ready Youth in Uttar Pradesh

The collaboration between the Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Development Department and Wadhwani Foundation marks a significant step toward transforming students into job-ready professionals and entrepreneurs. The initiative is expected to strengthen skill development, improve employment opportunities, and promote self-reliance among thousands of students across the state.
