Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a major welfare initiative aimed at supporting survivors of acid attacks and triple talaq cases by providing permanent housing, free healthcare, and monthly financial assistance.
The move is designed to bring affected women into the mainstream and ensure them a life of dignity, safety, and financial stability.
Permanent Housing Under PMAY and State Schemes
Under the new plan, survivors who do not have permanent housing will be provided:
- Pucca houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)
- Support through Chief Minister Housing schemes
This initiative aims to ensure safe and stable shelter for affected women and their families.
₹6,000 Monthly Pension for Financial Security
The government is also planning to provide a monthly pension of ₹6,000 to eligible survivors.
This financial support is intended to:
- Improve economic independence
- Reduce financial distress
- Ensure regular income support for affected women
The pension scheme will be part of broader social security measures.
₹5 Lakh Free Medical Treatment Coverage
As part of healthcare support, survivors and their families will receive:
- Up to ₹5 lakh free treatment annually
- Coverage under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana
- Inclusion under the Chief Minister’s health insurance scheme
This includes:
- Major surgeries
- Treatment for serious illnesses
- Rehabilitation and recovery support
Women & Child Development Department as Nodal Agency
The Women and Child Development Department has been designated as the nodal agency responsible for:
- Collecting data of eligible survivors
- Verifying beneficiaries
- Linking them to government welfare schemes
The department is actively compiling records to ensure timely delivery of benefits.
Focus on Rehabilitation and Self-Reliance
The state government has emphasized rehabilitation support for acid attack survivors, including:
- Medical reconstruction surgeries
- Medicines and long-term treatment
- Psychological and social rehabilitation support
The objective is to help survivors rebuild their lives and become self-reliant.
Fast-Track Implementation Ordered
Officials have been directed to implement the scheme on a fast-track basis to ensure that no eligible beneficiary is left out.
The government is expected to soon issue an official order detailing the implementation framework.
The initiative marks a significant expansion of Uttar Pradesh’s social welfare framework for vulnerable women. By combining housing, healthcare, and financial support, the scheme aims to provide long-term rehabilitation and restore dignity and stability in the lives of acid attack and triple talaq survivors.
