Baghpat: Women members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, will play an important role in preparing village development plans for 244 Gram Panchayats. The initiative aims to ensure women’s direct participation in rural planning, promote women-friendly Gram Panchayats and accelerate poverty alleviation.
As part of the initiative, two women members from Self-Help Groups will help identify development needs related to women in their respective villages. They will prepare proposals for various development schemes and ensure that the plans are uploaded to the relevant portal. These proposals will subsequently be incorporated into the final development plans of the Gram Panchayats.
466 SHG Women Will Conduct Village-Level Surveys
A total of 466 women associated with Self-Help Groups in Baghpat will conduct surveys to identify the needs of poor families and support village-level poverty alleviation planning.
Group Sakhis and Aajeevika Sakhis will visit households across villages to gather information from women associated with Self-Help Groups and economically disadvantaged families.
The survey will focus on identifying eligible beneficiaries and understanding their requirements under various government welfare and development schemes.
Based on the information collected, the women will prepare a Gram Poverty Alleviation Plan, which will be incorporated into the final development plans of the respective Gram Panchayats.
Government Schemes to Be Covered in the Survey
During the household surveys, the women will identify eligible beneficiaries and assess their needs under several government schemes and development programmes.
The key areas to be covered include:
- Swachh Bharat Mission: Sanitation and cleanliness-related support.
- G Ram Ji Yojana: Identification of eligible households requiring support under the programme.
- Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana: Housing assistance for eligible families.
- Ujjwala Yojana: Access to eligible beneficiaries for LPG-related benefits.
- Skill Development: Training and skill-building opportunities.
- Ration Cards: Identification of eligible families requiring ration card-related assistance.
- Agricultural Development: Support for eligible farming households.
- Animal Husbandry: Identification of needs related to livestock and allied activities.
- Enterprise Establishment: Opportunities and assistance for people seeking to establish small businesses.
The survey findings will help the administration understand which families qualify for different schemes and what support they need. The resulting poverty alleviation plans will then become part of the Gram Panchayats’ final development plans.
Initiative Aims to Make Gram Panchayats Women-Friendly
The initiative seeks to strengthen women’s participation in rural development and ensure that their needs are reflected in local planning.
By involving Self-Help Group members in preparing development proposals, the programme aims to give women a direct role in identifying village-level priorities and shaping development plans.
The initiative is also intended to help Gram Panchayats become more responsive to women’s needs while ensuring that welfare schemes reach eligible beneficiaries, particularly poor and disadvantaged families.
Focus on Poverty Alleviation and Women’s Empowerment
The broader objective is to make villages poverty-free and strengthen women’s empowerment through better planning and access to government schemes.
The household surveys will help identify gaps in access to welfare benefits and highlight the needs of vulnerable families. Incorporating these findings into village development plans is expected to improve the targeting of government assistance.
Deputy Commissioner of the Livelihood Mission Arun Kumar Pandey said that Group Sakhis would assist in preparing village development plans.
The initiative is expected to strengthen community participation in rural governance by involving women directly in identifying local needs, preparing poverty alleviation plans and supporting the implementation of development priorities across Baghpat’s 244 Gram Panchayats.
