Uttarakhand Completes 63 Parking Projects, Adds Space for Over 4,200 Vehicles Across Hill Districts

Uttarakhand’s Housing Department has completed 63 parking projects with a combined capacity of 4,202 vehicles across 10 hill districts, as the state expands parking infrastructure at tourist and pilgrimage destinations.

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand Housing Department has completed 63 parking projects with a combined capacity of 4,202 vehicles across 10 hill districts, according to the state government. The projects include surface, multilevel and automated parking facilities at key towns, pilgrimage centres and tourist destinations.

The initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to expand visitor infrastructure amid the increasing number of tourists and pilgrims visiting Uttarakhand.

Almora Has Highest Parking Capacity

The completed parking facilities are spread across 10 hill districts, with Almora accounting for the highest capacity at 1,087 vehicles, followed by Nainital with 679.

District-wise capacity:

  • Almora: 1,087 vehicles
  • Nainital: 679
  • Champawat: 600
  • Uttarkashi: 477
  • Pithoragarh: 309
  • Rudraprayag: 304
  • Pauri: 256
  • Chamoli: 201
  • Tehri: 163
  • Bageshwar: 126

New Parking Projects Underway in Nainital, Kainchi Dham

The state government is also developing additional parking facilities at major tourist and religious destinations.

A parking facility is being constructed in the Metropole Hotel area of Nainital, which is expected to accommodate around 700 vehicles.

A multilevel parking facility is being constructed at Kainchi Dham to cater to the growing number of devotees. The facility will have capacity for more than 500 vehicles at a time.

Housing Department Focuses on Parking Network

According to the state government, parking facilities have been developed according to the availability of land, using different models including surface parking, multilevel parking and automated parking.

Housing and State Property Department Secretary Dr R Rajesh Kumar said the completion of 63 projects has helped address parking requirements in several hill districts and provided facilities for tourists, pilgrims and local residents.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said more than six crore people visited Uttarakhand last year, adding that the government is expanding passenger facilities and focusing on parking infrastructure at major tourist destinations and along the Char Dham routes.
