Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved financial assistance worth approximately ₹256 crore for various development schemes and Kumbh Mela-related preparations across Uttarakhand.
The approved funds focus on strengthening disaster management systems, improving drinking water supply, and upgrading road infrastructure across the state.
Strong Focus on Disaster Management and Relief Infrastructure
Under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), allocations have been made using the remaining funds of the 15th Finance Commission. Each district will receive support across three key areas:
- ₹3 crore for relief and rescue operations
- ₹5 crore for recovery and reconstruction
- ₹2 crore for preparedness and capacity building
In total, ₹130 crore will be distributed among 13 districts of Uttarakhand.
Additionally, ₹26 crore has been sanctioned under the Non-SDRF category for reconstruction of assets damaged due to disasters, with ₹2 crore allocated per district.
Road Projects Approved for Kumbh Mela Preparations
In view of upcoming Kumbh Mela preparations, several road infrastructure projects have been approved, including:
- ₹2.72 crore for renovation of the four-lane road from National Highway-58 to the industrial area
- ₹2.13 crore for improvement of the Pashulok Barrage road
- ₹1.36 crore for upgrading the Bahadrabad–Rohalki Tirahe to Alipur–Sukrasa–Pathri Ambuwala route
These projects aim to improve connectivity and manage increased traffic during the major religious gathering.
Major Boost to Drinking Water Projects
Several water supply schemes have also received approval:
- ₹20.37 crore for Kamala Palace and GMS Road area water supply system in Dehradun
- ₹39.86 crore for Tilwada Nagar Panchayat water scheme in Rudraprayag
- ₹24.38 crore for Pipalkoti Nagar Panchayat water project in Chamoli
- ₹9.73 crore for Hindolakhal pumping water scheme in Tehri Garhwal
These projects aim to improve access to clean drinking water across urban and semi-urban regions.
Roorkee’s Sunhara Chowk Renamed as Shaheed Chowk
In a significant local decision, the Sunhara Chowk in Roorkee Municipal area will now be known as “Shaheed Chowk.” The proposal for the name change has been officially approved by the Chief Minister.
