Vadnagar Shravanotsav Draws 53,515 Tourists Over Four Sundays, Showcasing Gujarat’s Cultural Heritage

Shiva worship, classical music, dance, Hudo Raas and the Light & Sound Show at Sharmishtha Lake emerge as major attractions during the festival.

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Tourism Corporation’s grand Vadnagar Shravanotsav attracted 53,515 tourists over four Sundays during the holy month of Shravan, offering visitors a unique blend of devotion, music, dance and Gujarat’s rich cultural heritage.

The festival was organised every Sunday at the main ghat of the historic Sharmishtha Lake in Vadnagar. The celebrations received an enthusiastic response from tourists, with visitor footfall increasing consistently each Sunday.

Vadnagar Shravanotsav Celebrates Devotion and Culture

The four-day Sunday festival featured a diverse range of religious and cultural programmes, creating a vibrant atmosphere around Sharmishtha Lake.

First Sunday – August 16

The celebrations featured:

  • Ganesh Vandana
  • Shiv Tandav
  • Shiv Panchakshar Stotram
  • Conch and bell rituals
  • Vedic Rudrapath
  • Shiv Katha
  • Devotional Shiv bhajans

Second Sunday – August 23

Visitors witnessed a mix of devotional and classical performances, including:

  • Ganesh Vandana dance
  • Sitar and flute performances
  • Classical performances
  • ‘Bhu Shambhu’ programme
  • Shiv Aarti
  • Classical presentations based on Shiv music

Third Sunday – August 30

The programme highlighted both the spiritual and historical significance of Vadnagar. Key attractions included:

  • Ganesh Vandana
  • Presentation on Hatkeshwar Mahadev, the presiding deity of Vadnagar
  • Presentation on the historical significance of Vadnagar
  • Shiv Stuti
  • Shiv Tandav
  • Omkar Naad
  • Classical music performances
  • Hudo Raas associated with the Tarnetar Fair
  • Shiv bhajans and devotional songs

Fourth Sunday – September 6

The concluding Sunday featured an impactful dance performance based on Shiv Tandav Stotram, followed by live musical performances of Shiv bhajans accompanied by dancers.

The festival concluded with:

  • A grand Shiv Aarti
  • Participation of 11 Brahmins and 14 artists
  • Conch, bell and drum performances
  • A deeply devotional atmosphere at Sharmishtha Lake

53,515 Tourists Visited Vadnagar During Shravanotsav

Vadnagar witnessed a steady rise in tourist footfall across all four Sundays of the festival.

The Sunday-wise tourist footfall was:

  • August 16: 10,427 tourists
  • August 23: 13,644 tourists
  • August 30: 14,048 tourists
  • September 6: 15,396 tourists

Thus, a total of 53,515 tourists visited Vadnagar over the four Sundays of the Vadnagar Shravanotsav.

The figures indicate a consistent rise in tourist participation, with the highest footfall of 15,396 visitors recorded on September 6, the concluding Sunday of the festival.

Cultural Programmes Attract 15,474 Tourists

The evening cultural programmes also witnessed significant participation from tourists throughout the festival.

Attendance across the four Sundays was:

  • August 16: 2,573 tourists
  • August 23: 3,305 tourists
  • August 30: 4,330 tourists
  • September 6: 5,266 tourists

In total, 15,474 tourists attended the cultural programmes organised across the four Sundays.

The September 6 programme recorded the highest cultural programme attendance, with 5,266 tourists participating.

Light & Sound Show Becomes Major Attraction

The lighting and Light & Sound Show at Sharmishtha Lake emerged as another major attraction of the Vadnagar Shravanotsav.

During the evening, attractive lighting and laser displays transformed the historic setting into a visually captivating experience for visitors.

Gujarat Tourism also undertook special lighting and decoration at the lake and festival venue, enhancing the overall:
