Nagpur: Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dr Shrikant Jichkar Foundation, Nagpur, for the transformation and upgradation of Shishu Vihar Uccha Prathmik Shala, Mahal, Nagpur under the company’s Happy School Project.
The MoU was signed on September 19, 2026, in the presence of Bikram Ghosh, Director (HR)/(Fin), WCL. The agreement was signed by Lalit Prakash Tirkey, General Manager (CSR), WCL, and Ms. Maitreyi Jichkar, Secretary, Dr Shrikant Jichkar Foundation.
The initiative is aimed at improving the school’s infrastructure and creating a more engaging and technology-supported learning environment for students.
WCL’s Happy School Project to Transform Nagpur School
Under the Happy School Project, WCL will support various infrastructure and learning improvements at Shishu Vihar Uccha Prathmik Shala in Mahal, Nagpur.
The project is focused on creating a safe, inclusive and engaging environment for students while improving the overall classroom experience.
The planned work will combine basic infrastructure improvements with technology-based learning facilities.

Key Works Planned Under the Project
The school upgradation project will include several infrastructure and classroom development activities.
The major components are:
- Painting and BALA artwork to improve the visual learning environment.
- Waterproofing to strengthen the school building and protect it from water-related damage.
- Basic electrification to improve essential electrical facilities.
- Exterior tiling to enhance the school premises.
- Digital interactive panels in three classrooms to support technology-enabled learning.
These interventions are designed to improve both the physical infrastructure and learning environment of the school.
Project to Benefit 267 Students
The Happy School Project initiative will directly benefit 267 students of Shishu Vihar Uccha Prathmik Shala.
The upgraded facilities are expected to provide students with a more comfortable and interactive learning environment. The installation of digital interactive panels in three classrooms will also introduce technology-supported teaching and classroom engagement.

Focus on Safe and Technology-Supported Learning
The project goes beyond basic infrastructure development by introducing digital learning facilities in the school.

Along with digital facilities, improvements such as painting, BALA artwork, waterproofing, electrification and exterior tiling will contribute to creating a more functional and welcoming school environment.
WCL and Foundation Partner for Educational Development
The MoU brings together WCL and the Dr Shrikant Jichkar Foundation for the development of school infrastructure under the Happy School Project.
Through the initiative, WCL is supporting educational infrastructure as part of its CSR efforts, while the project is being implemented with a focus on improving the overall experience of students and teachers.
The transformation of the school is expected to provide a stronger foundation for a safe, inclusive and modern learning environment for the 267 students.
