Hyderabad: Marking a major milestone in Telangana’s ambitious urban development drive, IAS officer K. Shashanka has officially taken charge as the first Commissioner of the Future City Development Authority (FCDA).

The appointment, which took effect on April 28, follows the formation of the Authority by the State Government on March 12, 2025.

Mr. Shashanka, a 2013 batch IAS officer, brings extensive administrative experience to the role, having served as District Collector in Mahabubabad, Rangareddy, and Karimnagar. He currently also holds Full Additional Charge (FAC) as Director of Mines and Geology, and serves as Commissioner of State Flagship Projects.

The Government of Telangana issued formal orders on April 27, 2025, assigning him to lead the newly established Authority, signaling the beginning of the operational phase of one of the State’s most visionary projects.

The Vision Behind Future City

The Future City project is the brainchild of Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, envisioned as a transformative hub of economic, industrial, and technological growth. Positioned as a cornerstone of Telangana’s development strategy, the project has been widely discussed at investor meetings and industry forums.

Planned by the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC), the Future City aims to host a network of economic and industrial clusters, built on modern urban planning principles and sustainability standards. Spanning a vast 765.28 square kilometers, the project covers 56 revenue villages across seven mandals in Ranga Reddy district.

Why a Dedicated Authority?

The establishment of the Future City Development Authority (FCDA) was driven by the need for a dedicated institutional mechanism to oversee planning, coordination, and timely execution of the mega project.

“To ensure focused development and for the purposes of achieving specific objectives like planning, coordination and supervision… there is an immediate need for a special development authority,” reads the official notification creating the FCDA.

The Authority is expected to streamline administrative oversight, fast-track infrastructure creation, and provide regulatory clarity, enabling Future City to evolve into a world-class economic corridor.

With K. Shashanka at the helm, the Future City project enters a new chapter of implementation and delivery — reinforcing Telangana’s commitment to innovation-driven urban development.
