IFS officer Praveen Angusamy has shared a video of a rescue operation undertaken by the forest department, with the help of villagers, to save a Chinkara that had fallen into a deep well. In the video shared on X, forest personnel were seen lowering themselves down into the well that was full of water and then pulling the Indian antelope up to safety. The animal was then released and it ran away to its habitat.
The officer also shared that “Indian Antelope or Chinkara is a Schedule 1 species and enjoys the same protection, under WPA 1972, as big cats like Tiger and Leopard.”
